Why join . . .

Who we are

There are two organisations with similar names promoting top-quality music in the Wye Valley area. Wye Valley Music (we used to refer to ourselves as St Briavels Music Society) has a year-round programme of events. Wye Valley Chamber Music, under different management, holds its Festival in January and a shorter series in September.

WVM, locally based, engages top artists in a wide variety of genres and musical content. WVCM is London-based and calls on a regular group of fine musicians who return year after year. The two organisations cooperate but they maintain separate identities, administrations and web sites. You can support both, but this is our invitation to you to become a member of Wye Valley Music.

What we do

We promote concerts most months (except when WVCM are in action). In March, there's a flute/piano recital by local musicians Sarah Waycott & Hannah Mitchell and in May the Oriel

Singers (winners of the BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year competition in 2005) are paying us a return visit. We're just putting the finishing touches to our programme for a second 'Music-in-June' concert series and will be ready to announce our programme for the 2010/2011 season before very long.

We try to foster a culture of concert-going in our beautiful, rural area and work with other music societies to make information on their activities more widely available.

Benefits of membership

  • Members get reduced-rate entry to concerts put on by WVM and WVCM. In 2010 that will amount to 15 or more superb events;
  • As well as using the web-site, which is available to all, you get regular updates on events by post or e-mail;
  • Members have an opportunity to influence the way WVM is run and are encouraged to help run it.
