What could be more delightful than a free classical music concert outdoors in the Forest of Dean in August? Join Wye Valley Music and the Scarr Bandstand for Cool Classics on August 24th at 2:30pm at the
Scarr Bandstand in Sling.
The line-up promises to be both exiting and varied.
The Bute Wind Quintet kicks off the concert with Vaughan Willliams, Milhaud, Grieg and a touch of ABBA. They will be followed by The Devil’s Violinist, a violin and guitar duo performing Paganini’s famous 24th Caprice, J.S. Bach and tangos by Pujol, Moscardini and Piazzola.
Cool Classics is Scarr’s first foray into bringing classical music to their line-up of outdoor events held just outside Coleford and Wye Valley Music’s first free concert targeting local audiences that might not usually attend its performances. We are really excited to be working with this iconic Forest venue.
Please note that you need no tickets or reservations—the event is free! Just turn up with your picnic blanket or chairs. Bring your own food or purchase refreshments on site. Then you’ll have everything you need for an afternoon’s relaxed entertainment.
Parking is at the top of the site, with a three minute, sloping, downhill walk to the Bandstand. There are some disabled parking spaces directly next to the Bandstand on the flat. Drive straight down and follow the signs, or a parking marshall will direct you. Suitable for wheelchairs, scooters and people with walking difficulties.
You can also drive down to the Bandstand, unload people or equipment, and then re-park at the top; ask the parking marshals to direct you.
There are some chairs available if you are unable to bring your own. There are portaloos on site.
