Praised for their “immaculate precision and spirit” (The Strad) and “cultured tone” (Arts Desk), the Solem Quartet has established itself as one of the most innovative and adventurous quartets of its generation. Both individually and together members of the group they have garnered a host of accolades and awards.  The performance will be on:

Friday evening, 8th April at 7.30pm at the Bridges Centre, Monmouth

(Please note the change of date from what was previously advertised)

As part of their extended project featuring music by Bartók, Beethoven and contemporary composers, the group will perform:

Bela Bartók: String Quartet no. 4, BB 95

Cassandra Miller: ‘Warblework’

Ludwig van Beethoven: Quartet no. 12 in E flat major, op. 127

Hungarian composer Bartók’s exciting String Quartet No. 4 is one of the liveliest and most vigorous of his folk-inspired compositions. ‘Warblework’ by contemporary Canadian composer, Cassandra Miller (b1976) is an inventive and intriguing piece constructed around the calls of four species of song thrush found in her native forests.  Beethoven's String Quartet No. 12 in E♭ majorOp. 127, was completed in 1825. It is the first of Beethoven's late quartets and one of the most powerful and haunting of his final compositions.

Do join us to enjoy this evening recital by another outstanding young chamber ensemble. Seating will continue to ensure social distancing and mask wearing is encouraged when mixing or moving around.
