Programme:

Mozart: Adagio for Cor Anglais and String Trio
JS Bach: Fugue no 9 in E major BWV 878, from The Well-Tempered Clavier Book 2
Mozart:  Trio No.3 in F major K.404
Mozart: Oboe Quartet in F major, K.370
-----

Britten: Six Metamorphoses after Ovid for solo oboe (Op. 49)
Schubert: String Trio D.471
Britten: Phantasy Quartet, Op 2

This a very special recital featuring the beautiful combination of oboe and string trio and a rare opportunity to hear the four outstanding musicians who make up the Notos quartet. The first half of the programme explores the impact that J S Bach’s music had on Mozart as a composer. Following a solo oboe work by Britten the second half continues with a youthful string trio by Schubert and concludes with Britten’s brilliant 'Phantasy' oboe quartet.

The members of the Notos Quartet are Joseph Saunders, oboe, Melissa Reiner, violin, Alistair Scahill, viola and Tessa Seymour, cello.  The players all have well-established independent careers and came together as an oboe quartet in 2018.

Joseph studied Modern Languages at Cambridge University before post-graduate oboe studies at the Royal Academy; he plays regularly as Guest Principal Oboe with the London Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia and Royal Philharmonic Orchestras.

Melissa began her violin career in Hollywood but is now based in London, performing and recording across four continents with a diverse range of pop and classical artists, including Adele, Justin Timberlake and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alistair studied Viola at the Royal Academy of Music and on leaving began his freelance career with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and London Symphony Orchestra.  He continues to work predominantly with these two orchestras.

Tessa made her televised Carnegie Hall debut in 2006 and has since been performing in Europe, Asia and the US, both as soloist and chamber musician. She is committed to a repertoire that cuts across genres and brings to life contemporary and established works alike.
