Wye Valley Music is committed to encouraging young, classically trained musicians who are just starting out in their career.
Its community engagement programme, Wye Valley Music in Schools (WVMiS), offers a training programme to young musicians to develop the necessary skills to put together and confidently deliver a programme of music to primary school pupils.
The first segment of the training programme consists of a day in the Wye Valley watching, learning about and then creating a primary school performance. After an hour watching a live performance in a local school delivered by musicians with years of experience in this area, WVMiS’ trainer will talk you through those techniques which best entertained and engaged the children. The afternoon will be spent workshopping ideas for a bespoke school’s programme for each ensemble or individual musician, culminating in generating a first draft of programmes for at least two different age groups of children for each participant.
The second segment of the training is focussed on delivery of the programmes. You will perform for at least two different age groups of children at a local school, generally in a single morning, followed by an early afternoon review session, with WVMiS providing feedback as to what worked well and what might need modifying verbally over lunch and via a written, emailed report summarising that feedback and your performance as a whole.
You should leave this training programme with at least one performance ready to be delivered at any primary school and a good understanding of how to put together future programmes.
WVMiS will provide a mutually agreed on payment for each day’s participation.
Please send CV(s) that give details of relevant experience and please give a short description of the performance experience(s) you would offer. Further supporting information is also welcome. Email: [email protected]
